What is Psychology?

What is Psychology?

Introduction To Psychology:
What is Psychology? The question that comes in every individual's mind!

The word 'Psychology' comes from two 'Greeks' words.
1) Psyche.
2) Logos.

Psyche:

The word 'Psyche' means ''SOUL''.

Logos:

The word 'Logos' means "STUDY".

The meaning will become the study of the soul.

According to WILLIAM WOUNDS:

In Psychology, we didn't talk about the soul or mind.
We study about "Consciousness''.

According to "AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION" (APA):

Psychology is the Scientific Study of  HUMAN BEHAVIOR and MENTAL PROCESS.

When concluding the above three definitions of Psychology we get the idea that human behaviors systematical acceptances are Psychology in which HUMAN BEHAVIOR and MENTAL PROCESS is included.

THE PRIMARY GOALS OF PSYCHOLOGY:

1) MEASUREMENTS.
2) DESCRIPTION.
3) PREDICTION.
4) CONTROL

1) MEASUREMENTS:

Testing of Human Personality Validity and Reliability ( Intelligence, IQ level, Attitude, and Interest )
are called as Psychological Measurements.

2) DESCRIPTION:

The description is based on measurements of Psychology.

3) PREDICTION:

As we know that description is based on measurements. So if a person scores high in Intelligence tests then we can predict that the person is going to achieve a high goal in the future. That is called prediction.

4) CONTROL:

Due to imbalance in human behavior such as Anxiety or Depression and we will do measurements of it. Then we will describe the problem and would predict his/her anxiety or depression and will try an attempt to control his/her behavior through modifying techniques.
